This was made from a slab of an urban forested tree in Chicago. The top is end grain Honey Locust. This piece has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. Sanding was done before the second and third coats to enhance the quality of the satin finish. The metal base has a black enamel finish with honeysuckle plugs to prevent the Legs from scratching the floor. Welded finished and designed in three months. Slab air dryed for two years. Air drying was choosen to allow the wood to help inform the shape of the table. The legs were developed from the fiborous nature of the material. The dialogue between legs and top is inspired by the verticality of the grain. The language that the legs employ mimic the indivual fibers that are visible in the wooden top. The minimal emphasis on the legs shifts the focus on the sculptural and natural aesthetic qualities of the wood which is common in live edge wood.
