The goal of this project was to create a nexus where the community can congregate. This project is located on the Northern edge of Chicago’s “Emerald Necklace.” Although this is focused on developing the Logan Square Neighborhood, design principles can be implemented along the boulevard to create a set of diverse neighborhoods in Chicago. The middle of the boulevard has been taken over to calm traffic as well as create open spaces for community use. In Logan Square the Farmers Market will have a nice paved zone to expand upon. During the winter the Farmer’s Market will be hosted in the privately owned community center. Creating a privately owned community center is beneficial because it allows for higher quality spaces as well as a higher level of maintence and control over the Community Center. The focal point of this project is a fifteen story mixed use building that will utilize the transit system to create a dense and robust neighborhood. The implementation of this architecture also creates an active corridor down Milwaukee and starts to create peaks and valleys that could continue as it gets farther away from the city center.
